Art Therapy in Response to Natural Disasters, Mass Violence, and Crises

Jessica Kingsley Publishers, UK, 2022

In 2020, I co-authored two chapters (3, 6) in this anthology edited by Joseph Scarce, Ph.D, ATR-BC, Assistant Professor of Art Therapy at The University of Tampa.

This project came about after I had written a blog post on a forum of the American Art Therapy Association (AATA) about my experience in 2019 facilitating monthly art therapy support groups (in cooperation with some fellow board members of the Northern CA Art Therapy Association  - NorCATA) in Chico, CA for survivors of the Camp Fire that destroyed the Northern California foothills town of Paradise following unseasonal winds in October 2018.

Joe read my blog post and invited me to write a chapter on the CA wildfires as a contribution to the book he was editing. I invited my NorCATA support group colleagues to co-author the chapter to capture the full effort of all individuals involved. He also asked me to co-author a chapter on my experience and self-care as an art art therapist during the pandemic.
